In October 2010, Tech Crunch founder Michael Arrington published his inspiring blogpost “Are you a pirate?”, in which he defined key characteristics of a specific type of founder whose central motivation is not the pay-off, but rather the adventure of founding itself.

Four students and four reputable individuals from the German founders’ community decided that yes, they were pirates and even more importantly, they recognized the lack of a sustainable “pirate network”. The “European Pirate Summit” aims to bring together like-minded entrepreneurs for an exchange of information, opinions, and experiences in a comfortable atmosphere.

The makers of ADVANCE – International Web & Startup Conference are closely connected with the pirate team, facilitating synergies and benefits for all participants. The European Pirate Summit (EPS) is a stand-alone, invitation-only format within ADVANCE. All ADVANCE participants may apply to attend the EPS as well, but remember: It’s for pirates only!
